DC01 - Devastator: Dual-Hull Cruiser
Here's my most recent project, a dual-hulled cruiser. The main idea was to get a ship using a more efficient and stable shape in order to get a craft capable of taking on higher-level faction vehicles. I also used much more active defenses and armor.

Armament

1x ejected dual-barreled 21rpm (each) 500mm 6m inertial HE/frag main gun
2x 27rpm 450mm 4m rail-assisted inertial frag side guns
4x 306rpm 142.85mm beltfed rail-assisted low-velocity inertial frag guns
8x 5 long frag missiles
Note: All but one 142.85mm gun can fire if facing forward at 15-20 degrees

Defenses

1. 2x LAMS systems using 4800 power each and with 9 nodes each (3 bow, 3 superstructure, 3 back)
2. lots of strength 6 shields, mostly double-layered and angled downward at the edge
3. 3m metal and 1m stone armor at the belt, 3m metal below the armor belt, and 1m stone, 1m metal separating the pontoons from the center
4. enough armor around the side guns to mostly protect other systems
5. 2m bottom armor on the pontoons, 1m in the middle (torps shouldn't be a problem because it is raised up 2m)
6. 4 ammo decoys in the bows and sterns, and 1 split (won't chain-react) main storage in the center bow

Other stuff

active roll stabilization, because apparently not even dual-hulled ships can deal with semi-reduced recoil
4 engines (the one in the middle is semi-combined)
2 LAMS sections in the back
no detection beyond missile detection and a passive radar
3 AIs, one for main guns, one for the frags and missiles, and one for just movement
16m/s normal speed
A decent bit of fuel and resource storage, 10 repair tentacles
ACBs for controlling shield setting
just over 150k material cost

Will adding a second hull finally allow our cruisers to repel firepower of that magnitude?

No, we have to give the designers more time.

(There was an attempt.)

Catamarans are underrated.

Your giant expensive powerful warship of doom can be destroyed by dropping an anvil on it. One day, I will finally have enough engines to actually make a ship without stopping to make more engines.
