Guns will store a certain amount of shells. The gun will fire 1 shell from each autoloader at the set fire rate or cooldown speed. After each autoloader has had one of its shells fired, it starts reloading a new shell and consuming ammo and reloading a shell it already has into the firing piece to fire. It takes 2x as long to reload from your ammo stores as to reload the firing, so you will eventually run out of shells. If you use clips, you will always have some shells in your clips unless you run out of ammo and cannot reload new shells or after long enough and your clips are emptied.
