Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
So, as some of you will know, there was a tournament called the Gobi Offensive planned, and had many entries but some some reason it never actually went ahead. So now I have decided to rescue it.

As I have no connection with the original organisers I've had to get people to send me my BP's. I've re-named the tournament to avoid confusion with the old, dead one (Faux is french for 'fake' and is pronounced like 'Fo', meaning this is a very clever name Big Grin).

If you originally entered the tournament OR would like to enter anyway I have decided to set a deadline of 12:00 GMT on Monday 9th October. I realise this isn't much time, but this is primarily for people who have already made their entries and we've already been waiting for months to get started.

The rules and format of the tournament are staying the same, I have copied and pasted them below with some light editing (including changing everything to use British English spelling, as the Queen intended). I might miss a few reference to the old Gobi tournament or it's organisers - just ignore that.

General Information:

While we had lots of Ship tournaments, some Aircraft tournaments and some tank tournaments, we literally never had a tournament with anything along the lines of how modern warfare is actually waged:

Combined Arms

As you might guess, the point of this particular Tournament is a combined arms scenario, in which the participants will be required to submit a combined arms detachment, consisting of anything from jeeps, Tanks, Jets, Cas and Helicopters to mobile CIWS platforms and aerial Gunships of any kind. I personally want to see a tournament, which does not only involve a well thought out tactical compositions of different vehicles of one branch, but actual battle formations that could theoretically perform on a Strategical level.

To regulate this tournament, we will have two main Principles: First of all, I will use a class System along the lines of what Th3Jimmer did for his Team Deathmatch, and I'll also use a restriction that was brought to my attention by Awellner, namely that Helicopters and planes need to produce lift with their Rotors or Wings. Thrustercraft will be completely banned from this one, the same goes for Internal Rotors.

Rules and Restrictions:
In the following, I will enumerate the banned blocks by Tab. Blocks marked with an asterisk (*) are allowed as part of a classes' special rule.
  • Block Tab: Light Blocks, Heavy armor*
  • Water Tab: All, except for Rudder and propeller
  • Air Tab: Hot air baloon deployer, Helium Pump
  • Control Tab: Lua Box
  • Ressources Tab: RTGs
  • Fuel Engines Tab: None
  • Steam Engines Tab: None. But all blocks from this Tab need to be arranged in respective position they are meant to occupie in a steam engine.
  • Misc Tab: All*, except for repair bots
  • Simple Weapons Tab: All, except for Auto Cannon
  • Missile Tab: None
  • Decorations Tab: None
  • CRAM Cannons Tab: None
  • Advanced Cannons Tab: Railgun Magnet Attaching Fixture
  • Lasers: All, Except for laser combiner
  • AI Tab: (CARD) Aimpoint selection
  • New Objects Tab: Spinblocks, except for if they're used for aesthetics, such as getting a cool looking angle for the missiles on a vehicle, instead of just the plain 0 or 90 degrees you would usually have.

Furthermore,
  • Grav Rams. For obvious reasons
  • Helicopter Blades and Dedicated heliblade extensions cannot be inside of a vehicle, unless less than 20% of their surface is covered by it
  • Extensive clipping, or any kind of clipping for this matter, is unbelievable forbidden. You wouldn't believe how forbidden it is.
  • None of your blueprints can have an RPM exceeding 500. Or we will have massive shell despawn
  • the percentage values given in the Formation section are not concerning total rp, but a segment of your total number of crafts.
  • Resource limit does not include the Spawn stick

Classes and Formations:
As I said, we will have a class System similiar to what Th3Jhimmer basically invented back in his Team Death match. But we will take it a stept further, and Introduce Battleformations. For the Hams.

-Classes:

-Armoured Vehicles

Armoured vehicles are the Backbone of any modern force, and will most likely play a big role in this tournament, if it ever takes place:
  • Can only use Blocks which names includes "Wheel" as means of propulsion
  • Cannot use anything from the Air Tab (except for wheels, duh).
  • Cannot use anything from the Cram Tab
  • Cannot exceed a volume of 2500m or beneath of 1350
  • Cannot have more than 4 Missile Launchpads, or 5 Gantries per launchpad.
  • Cannot have Anti Missile Canon Controllers
  • Cannot have belt-fed autoloaders on weapons with a higher gauge than 80 mm
  • Cannot drive faster than 45 m/s
  • Cannot exceed an altitude of 15 on a regular basis
  • *Special Rule: Can Use heavy armor

-Support vehicles

Support vehicles can fulfil a huge amount of roles, and are often highly specialised. They may not provide a force with the destructive power offered by a Main Battle Tank, but they are often crucial for the success of the force they're a part of.
  • Can only use Blocks which names includes "Wheel" as means of propulsion
  • Cannot use anything from the Air Tab (except for wheels, duh).
  • Cannot exceed a volume of 2000, or be beneath of 200.
  • Cannot exceed an altitude of 15 on a regular basis
  • Cannot drive faster than 55 m/s
  • *Special Rule: Can use spinblocks to mount missiles in cool looking angles, but for nothing else. Clipping is still very much forbidden.

-Helicopters:

Helicopters are the primary means of tactical CAS and short range troop transport in modern militaries, and can offer a wide variety of advantages to the forces they're deployed by.
  • Cannot be thrustercrafts Or planes. If the Lift is generated by anything but Helicopter blades or Dedicated heliblade extensions, the vehicle in question will be banned.
  • Cannot maneuver by the means of anything else but Helicopter blades or Dedicated heliblade extensions.
  • Controlling the helicopters' pitch and roll by the means of Jet engines and/or ion thrusters however, is totally fine.
  • Cannot use Stone, or Lead blocks.
  • Cannot use anything from the Cram Tab
  • Cannot exceed a volume of 1500, or be be beneath of 1000.
  • Cannot not have Anti Missile Canon Controllers
  • Cannot exceed an altitude of 300 Meters in regular flight.
  • Cannot fly faster than 50 m/s
  • *Special Rule: Subvehicle Spawner, Docking Station and Origin block, but only if deployed in an Airborne formation.

-Winged Aircraft:

Airplanes in General, and jets in particular, are the primary means of gaining air superiority, which has proven to be particularly Important during large offensive battles.
  • Cannot be Thrustercrafts or Helicopters. If the Lift of the craft is generated by anything but horizontal thrust and its wings, the vehicle in question will be banned.
  • Can use Thrusters to slightly amplify and controll roll, yaw and pitch. I'm not going to be too strict, as long as you're not literally sending a winged thrustercraft.
  • Cannot use Stone, Metal, or Lead blocks.
  • Cannot use anything from the Cram Tab
  • Cannot exceed a volume of 1500, or be beneath of 500
  • Cannot have Anti Missile Canon Controllers
  • Cannot exceed an altitude of 400 meters in regular flight
  • Cannot fly faster than 110 m/s
  • Cannot have Turrets
  • *Special Rule: Can use Aimpoint selection card, but only if set to prefer ground Targets, and only equipped with thruster-/Propulsionless missiles. CAS should be able to dominate ground targets after all

-Gunships:

While the term "Gunship" is often used to literally describe any form of CAS, we will orientate us on the C-130 J gunship in use by several branches of the US Military.
  • Cannot be Thrustercrafts or Helicopters. If the Lift of the craft is generated by anything but horizontal thrust and its wings, the vehicle in question will be banned.
  • Cannot use Stone, Metal, or Lead blocks, except for on its turrets.
  • Cannot exceed a volume of 4000, or be beneath of 2000
  • Cannot exceed an altitude of 500 meters in regular flight
  • Cannot fly faster than 80 m/s
  • Must use at least one CRAM or APS
  • *Special Rule: Limited to one single unit, regardless of formation

-Formations-

-Armoured Division

Armored divisions are large Main battle Fromations, which mainly consist of tanks, and dedicated tank support.
  • Cannot use Gunships
  • 60% of the Blueprints in this formation must be Armoured Vehicles
  • Cannot use more than 10% Winged Aircraft
  • Has 250.000 ressources at its disposal

-Airborne Division

Airborne Divisions are often used as fast response special forces, and usually carry all their equipment into battle by air.
  • Cannot use Armoured Vehicles
  • 40% of the Blueprints in this formation must be Support vehicles
  • All-none Air-vehicles must be carried into battle by helicopters
  • Has 250.000 ressources at its disposal
  • *Special rule: will be spawned with a 3000 meter spawn distance to the enemy

-Mechanised Division:

Mechanised division are highly mobile forces, which excel at multi-roll warfare, and are neither as fast or as vulnerable as Airborne division, or as slow and brutish as armoured divisions.
  • Cannot use Armored Vehicles
  • 50% of the blueprints in this formation must be Support vehicles
  • Cannot use more than 20% Winged Aircraft, which includes the Gunship
  • Has 250.000 resources at its disposal

Battlefield format

First of all, the map will be mostly flat, so do not fear for your tanks.
  • Altitude limits are +500 and -10
  • Detection will be 0.49
  • Maximum Distance is 3000.
  • Spawn distance is 2000.
  • Match timer will be set to 10 minutes.
  • each division will have 50000 starting resources
  • W00tness' tournament creator will be used, NOTE originally this stated team damage will be disabled, but that's not an option - so THERE WILL BE TEAM DAMAGE
  • This tournament will have several stages: The first stage will be a group phase, in which the competitors will be organised in as many groups of 3-4 as we can fill. Within those groups, each detachment will fight each of the other detachments once, and the winner will be the detachment with the most wins. In the case of a tie, it will be decided by the entry with the most wins, and the highest total remaining health at the end of each battle (as indicated by the tournament mod either at the time limit, or when the opposing force reaches 0% - whichever comes first). [THIS HAS BEEN CHANGED TO AVOID POSSIBLY LARGE NUMBERS REPEATED BATTLES UNDER THE OLD SYSTEM]

The winners of each group will then proceed to a regular single elimination tournament.

Submissions

Requirements:
  • Your force needs to be attached to a Horizontal spawn stick. This does not only enable you to set up a suitable formation for your forces, but also makes it easier for me to check how many resources you spent while assembling your Division.
  • You have to make sure that all of your vehicles abide to all the rules mentioned above.
  • You need to name your force.
  • Submissions are due until the 12:00 9th of October.

Please submit your entries either via Forum message, or send me a message on Discord ( @Zebgef 5580 )

Accepted Submissions:
  • 'The Squadron' by Zebgef
  • Crimson Guard by Anickle
  • 1st Autonomous Divison by Kaonicping
  • CharlieSquad by Panzersaurusrex
  • Chase scenes and Heavy Metal by char charodon
  • Knight Squadron by Bodyless

Problematic Submissions:

The following BP's have what I consider to be minor rules violations. Because this tournament has waited so long I don't want to reject every rule breaking so order to both keep things moving, and to be open about what's happening I have decided that I will fix minor stuff and document exactly what rule is broken and what (if anything) I am doing about it.

All these entries WILL BE taking part in the tournament
  • 16a Divisao Blindada by adnecria - invalid force composition (required 60% armoured, was only 58.3%) ALLOWED
  • Weenus Legion by T3hJimmer - Illegal spinblock use - Illegal spinblocks have been deleted
  • T-Battalion by Tomson - invalid force composition (required 60% armoured, was only 50%) ALLOWED
  • 500th Mechanized accompanied by 3rd Airborne Squad Rising Sun by gamng19 - Use of Heavy Armour on Support class vehicle - has been changed to Metal
  • Coneezean 342nd Imperial Armoured by ConeezeanEmperor - Use of Heavy Armour on Support class vehicle and Helicopter class vehicle - has been changed to Metal
  • GPYFs 2nd Armored Defence Batallion by ThunderPanzer - Several Vehicles exceeding speed limits * - Added ACBs to correctly limit speed
  • Kommandant Omega FUROR-First Wave Forces by Paradoxical_Enigma - HaHT Mk3 Fenrir class exceeding speed limits - Added ACBs to correctly limit speed
  • Zetan Air Control by Kreuzheber - x33 and x34 class vehicles exceeding speed limit - Added ACBs to correctly limit speed
  • The armor fist of Coldhaven by Haapz - invalid force composition (required 60% armoured, was only 43.7%) ALLOWED
  • The Crimson legion by 'The Connman who went to the Zu to see a Lyon with an arrow in the Neekap' - AT-01 Triton class is armoured class, but volume is below minimum limit ALLOWED

* I found ACBs that appeared to be there to limit the speed, but they were not functioning correctly

Groups

I will be creating groups as and when I have at least 7 unassigned entries. I will select at random from the unassigned entries. Do not worry if you are not in a group yet. If you are listed as accepted above you will be taking part.

If the deadline arrives and I do not have enough entries for a full group, the final group will be supplemented by the best performing runners up for the previous groups, thus giving them another opportunity to enter the main bracket. I realise this arguably puts entries in the last group at a disadvantage, but on the flip side they will have had the chance to watch other entries perform and spend more time honing theirs. If this concerns you I suggest you get your entry to me ASAP to avoid being in the last group.

Group 1
  • 1st Autonomous Divison by Kaonicping (0 wins)
  • Coneezean 342nd Imperial Armoured by ConeezeanEmperor (Winner, 3 wins)
  • Kommandant Omega FUROR-First Wave Forces by Paradoxical_Enigma (1 wins)
  • Zetan Air Control by Kreuzheber (2 wins)

Group 2
  • 16a Divisao Blindada by adnecrias
  • CharlieSquad by Panzersaurusrex
  • The armor fist of Coldhaven by Haapz
  • Weenus Legion by T3hJimmer

Group 3
  • 500th Mechanized accompanied by 3rd Airborne Squad Rising Sun by gamng19
  • Chase scenes and Heavy metal by char charodon
  • GPYFs 2nd Armored Defence Batallion by ThunderPanzer
  • T- Battalion by Tomson

Group 4
  • Crimson Guard by Anickle
  • Knight Squadron by Bodyless
  • TFN Ghost division by SirAres
  • 'The Squadron' by Zebgef

Group 5

  • Crimson Guard by Anickle**
  • Zetan Air Control by Kreuzheber**
  • Weenus Legion by T3hJimmer**

** Group 5 is padded out to the full size by the addition of the highest scoring runners up from the other groups.

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
OK people, so - I've been checking entries against the rules, and thus far I've finished checking 2 entries besides my own (rules checking is slow and tedious by the way), and both have some rules violations, although I think they are pretty minor stuff.

So, the question is, do people want me to be enforcing the rules strictly and getting people to fix the rules violations, just just letting small stuff go?

For example, all components under the laser tab are listed as banned, but one entry is using a laser combiner for ACB based movement control.

Or someone is using spinblocks with ACBs for a 'wiggle' damage avoidance system. Clever, but spinblocks are banned except for aesthetics (or changing missile launcher angle).

So yeah, what do people want? Please let me know ASAP as I wanted to get on to the filming but right now I can't really proceed until I find 4 entries that aren't breaking any rules.

I think the understanding was that "only for decoration only" means "not as a weapon or armour".

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
I think being so strict about spinblocks is a waste really, ditto with laser combiners. Though may I suggest that you allow spinblocks and only ban clipping or other abuse with them? I looked at the person hosting the previous tournament and they seemed to have a pretty huge vendetta against spinblocks for whatever reasons.

EDIT: and why the ban on light blocks?

Uses the golden ratio.

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
So, I didn't write the rules and if I had would probably have allowed this. But my concern is if I allow this then some people who entered might be understandably upset that I'd allowed these rules violations. On the other hand, given how long we've all waited, maybe everyone is happy to just let minor stuff like this slide so we can just get on with it. I just want to get a feel for what people think. before I go ahead with recording.

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
Yeah, I advise you do as Niomedes did, allow it for aesthetics but no more, and personally, I would also advise keeping the rules about spin blocks on, as if you change them to be more lenient then we will have a huge disparity between those that suddenly used spin blocks for advantages, changing their entries, and those that did not change my entry, and I am sure that I speak for many when I say that I would rather not touch my entry again after so long a wait.

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
You seem to assume that using spinblocks will suddenly massively increase the power of designs. The truth is that it just doesn't.

Also, about light blocks, why are they banned? Seems just a little odd and random when reading through the rules.

Uses the golden ratio.

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
OK, so those two examples I gave were not the entirety of the rules violations I found. It sounds like people vary in their opinion of what is OK. I really don't want to have to post about every different type of violation I find and check how people feel.

I'm minded to say the following:

-Laser combiners for controls - OK
-banned blocks used PURELY for aesthetics - OK

For any other issues:

-if I judge it to be minor I will try and fix it in the simplest way possible e.g. for the spinblock 'wiggle' system I will just turn off the spinblock turning so the vehicle doesn't wiggle. If it cannot be easily fixed I'll just let it slide.
-If I judge it to be significant, then I will ask for it to be fixed.

Thus far I've only come across what I'd consider minor issues.

How do people feel about this?

Both spin blocks and light blocks can be abused as I understand it.

Thus far I've not found any light blocks being used, and only one case of spin blocks being used for non-aesthetics. And I view that as fairly minor - it'll give an advantage but it's not exploity at all (and can easily be fixed).

RE: Fauxbi Offensive Tournment
Well I'm asking you, you claim that they can be exploited in a way that grants a big advantage: HOW?
I have yet to see any examples of how something like that could actually be game winning.
What I'm saying is that we shouldn't disqualify things for using spinblocks because it is against the rules and have it be against the rules because it just is, But rather we should ban things based on what actually gives an unfair advantage.

Uses the golden ratio.
