Eagle Industries marine starter pack [NEW: Defiant and Blowfish]

Welcome to Eagle Industries, a startup company that brings you the best brand spanking new military hardware out there. If you're looking for an honest, environmentally responsible product; you've come to the right place!

The fleet
All ships, submarines and flying machines are designed around a realistic, near-future tech style. As they are a representation of current and near-future tech, a number of design constraints are in place. Every ship is designed for a specific task in the fleet, be it naval bombardment, patrol, Anti-Air, anti-submarine, et cetera. Individual ships often excel at one or two tasks, but are inferior to others and thus need supporting. Furthermore, realistic design also imposes limits on the amount and kind of weapons used. I dislike the use of fast firing high gauge guns, or a ship that has every last bit of space used for offensive or defensive weapons. Every ship also has a trade-off in armour, so that it can remain reasonably bouyant without fear of submerging parts of the deck or even weapons during normal operations. Engine design is based around fuel efficiency. A ship gets the most fuel efficient engine it can support, since maritime operations require ships to be independent of refueling and restocking for long periods of time. Being near-future tech ships, LAMS are used, but offensive weapons are ruled out and the use of shields is limited. LAMS are furthermore underpowered, and need to stock in energy first since the limited engine power doesn’t allow for large LAMS installations to be used.

The only exception on the eco-friendly engines are on aircraft, since they usually don't have the space for a huge engine that only has a limited output, but even they should have more than a combat durability of around an hour or more (if they last that long). Furthermore, aircraft also use shields more.

Here at Eagle Industries, we know firsthand that your financial resources will probably be limited when you start out on your endeavour. To aid you, we will offer you our finest in starter equipment: The Blowfish class light patrol boat, Defiant class medium patrol boat, Spearfish class medium patrol boat, Cobra class large patrol boat and the Orka light attack submarine.

To make the choice for a ship easier, here follows a short summary of the units:

- The Blowfish is the smallest available ship in the entire EI fleet. She's primarily anti-naval focussed, with torpedoes as main weapons and autocannons to be able to defend against lightly armoured foes.

- The Defiant is a medium sized patrol boat focussed on naval engagement, sports the same autocannon loadout as the Blowfish, the same amount of torpedoes but has four missiles to provide some extra AA-capabilities. Against surface targets, she performs better than the Spearfish.

- The Spearfish is a medium sized alround patrol boat, specialized in Anti-Air. She has no torpedoes, which makes her vulnerable to submarines, but has eight missiles to help ward off enemy helicopters and light aircraft. She is better in an AA-role than the Defiant, and the ships are designed to complement eachother.

- The Cobra is a large patrol vessel, primarily designed around speed and agility. It is the most heavily armed patrol vessel and an alrounder.

- The Orka light attack submarine is a small automated sub designed to take out surface ships and small submarines. She has no AA capabilities, and limited means to defend herself.

The Spearfish’ primary use is as a light patrol and support ship. Even though it is designed to operate near the coasts and on rivers, it’s often seen on the ocean supporting supply vessels or as a part of small patrol groups. It is capable of taking out lightly armed and armoured targets, both on the surface and in the air, but struggles against anything with large calibre rounds or medium armour.

The Cobra is intended to be a replacement of the Spearfish, since the latter was deemed too light to perform well in more intense battles. The main selling point of the Cobra is its high speed, which if utilized well may ensure survival against far larger targets. The low cost of this ship make it an ideal scout and patrol ship and has already been widely used in the Eagle Industries fleet.

Warning: AI control only

The Orka was the first of the Eagle Industries submarine line, and has primarily been a testbed for submarine design. Four ballast tanks control her bouyancy, and she's controlled by hydrofoils and rudders. As the Orka is a light submarine, she's relatively weak on her own and survivability is aided by putting her in Wolfpacks containing multiple submarines, supported by a Bluefin attack submarine for AA defence. To this end, the Orka has been set-up for AI control and it is not possible to manually control her, without switching off multiple ACB's. She's best used against light to medium surface vessels without anti-sub measures.

RE: Eagle Industries marine starter pack [NEW: Cobra patrol boat]
To compensate for the massive amount of battleships and other highly expensive ships, Eagle Industries would like to introduce one of the latest additions to it's fleet: The Cobra fast patrol boat. She's added to the OP as blueprint.

RE: Eagle Industries marine starter pack [NEW: Defiant and Blowfish]
Detectorings needed tuning on both the new ones - should also come with a "do not use if liable to be seasick" warning I think...

*quietly fixes torpedo fin placement*.

Poke my boat! mostly pre-2.0 learning & catalogue thread - Heavy tanks 21/10/17. 6 ships made 2.0 aware. If it's not AotE I can't do it regularily - post processing gives me eyestrain at sea.

RE: Eagle Industries marine starter pack [NEW: Defiant and Blowfish]
HEY, STOP DOING THAT

Well I actually didn't care much for sensor tuning...

And yes, seasickness is very much a thing Tongue But then again, I'm sure such small ships shouldn't be allowed in the open ocean in the first place Tongue

Hah, "shouldn't" is a long way from "aren't" Big Grin

Just banging the auto-tune button works fine - well, "good enough" - as long as you don't have coincidence rangefinders.

RE: Eagle Industries marine starter pack [NEW: Defiant and Blowfish]
True...
But most of the time I only use these ships for the first few hours, especially the blowfish. However, recent updates made her actually a decent weapon, and the autocannons help a lot, too.
